The second miracle of Louis and Zélie Martin, the Saints

Carmen was born October 15th, 2008, she was only 28 weeks old and the pregnancy was very difficult. “Be Prepared for the worst,” announces the midwife. Complications common for large premature are multiply respiratory distress, heart, double sepsis, cerebral haemorrhage at the most advanced stage, etc.

The child was born on the day of the Feast of St. Teresa of Avila, so her dad went to a Carmel outside the city. The sisters take to heart this intention. Parents came to the office every Sunday and quickly get back to the hospital.

In late November, there is no hope left. For the first time the mother can take her baby in her arms, the incubator remains open. The family begins to think of the burial.

On 23 November, the Prioress of Carmel gives parents the prayer to Louis and Zélie in Spanish.

The next day, something incredible happens: against all odds, Carmen gets better, the infection is under control. She starts to recover, to the point of exit the hospital on 2 January 2009.

One point remains very worrying: cerebral haemorrhage that dilates his skull and caused pains. A review is planned on February 19. It will probably operate.

Again, a prayer is addressed to Martin Parents whose Reliquary providentially passes Llerida Sanctuary just before. Carmen’s father, his brother Ishmael (born in 2004), and the grandfathers go there to thank and intercede.

In their monastery, the Carmelites join their prayer. A few days later, ultrasound reveals that cerebral haemorrhage is gone the scars had disappeared and, what is most surprising (to date doctors cannot explain) there is no neurological or motor sequelae.

Because of this miracle, the Pope authorized this morning of March 18, the decree of recognition.

Carmen’s parents tell us: “The news of the canonization of Blessed Louis Martin and Zélie Guerin fills us with emotion, joy and gratitude. For us, they are part of our family since we asked them to intercede before the Lord and grant us the healing of our daughter. The Martin’s couple is an example of a loving family whose foundation is love and respect for children. And now, thanks to them, we can share these values to our two children. “
